This was one of my most popular blog posts, and with good reason. It's simple and very effective! Read on for easy, stronger, shinier hair!
Because many of the skincare recipes I will be sharing include egg whites, I wanted to make sure we use those precious yolks too! Egg yolks are rich in lecithin and protein which can help strengthen and add moisture to your hair. I’ve tried this hair treatment a few times now, and I like it even more than coconut oil. My hair felt stronger, shinier and well, bouncier after this age-old treatment.
Note: This can be done on dry hair for up to 30 minutes, but I prefer to use it while showering as it’s messy and you need to leave it on for at least 10 minutes. You can also apply it and wrap your hair in a warm wet towel if you want it to sit a little longer.
What to do:
Mix together the following ingredients and set aside while you get ready to shower. (If you have long hair, you may want to double this, when I had medium length hair this recipe made plenty for me):
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 cup of warm water
In the shower, rinse your hair so that it is completely wet. Next, poor the mixture onto your hair, massaging it into the ends. Make sure you do this first, so you can go about the rest of your routine and allow the mixture to sit for at least 10 minutes. If your hair is long, you can clip it up once you’ve applied the treatment. After 10 minutes, rinse the mixture out and then wash your hair with a gentle shampoo.
I like Acure Organics' shampoos. They're gentle, smell great and of course they're SLS-free so they don’t strip your hair of its natural oils. I find I only need to shampoo once, but you can do this step twice if you are worried that the mixture is not entirely washed out.
I usually do these treatments at night so that my hair can air dry and I can style it the next day. I very rarely dry my hair because I think it causes too much damage and frankly, I'm lazy. I always have an amazing hair day after a treatment like this and I like that you don’t have to leave it in overnight so when morning comes around there are no extra steps!
Give this one a try tonight and let me know how you like it! Got any tips and tricks to add? Leave them in the comments!
