Yogurt, Honey & Lemon Mask

I’ve always had a neurotic aversion to things that I considered to be “all chemical-y”. I try to avoid buying things that seem too far removed from their original ingredients, both in the food I eat and the products I put on my skin. For example, Twinkies and Proactiv have never been on my shopping list. Now, as an aesthetics student, the more I learn about the cosmetics industry, the angrier I get. Products are chock full of toxins and carcinogens and ingredients are either hard to find or impossible to understand. Luckily, the maker in me takes over and says “Screw this, I’ll just make my own!”
In celebration of this spirit, I want to share a skin care recipe you can easily make at home. This mask is a great exfoliator and redness reducer. The yogurt calms irritated skin while the lemon and honey have antibacterial properties that can help prevent breakouts. And best of all, you know exactly where all the ingredients came from!
Directions
Whip together the following ingredients until the desired consistency is reached and spread the mixture on your face:
- 1/4 cup of greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Leave mask on for ten minutes and remove with a warm cloth. Tone & moisturize. (Make sure to use a moisturizer with an SPF, as the lemon juice can leave your skin sensitive to the sun.)
This recipe makes enough for a few faces, so adjust as needed or share it with a friend. Enjoy! And thank you to my friend Sam for sharing this recipe with me!
